 LITTLE LOVE AFFAIR HORSE OF THE YEAR AT NORTH DAKOTA HORSE PARK

 

North Dakota Horse Park, Fargo, ND, October 5, 2009 -- The three finalists for Quarter Horse of the Year were:
Shake Em Diva The “lady in white”, this 3-year-old grey filly flew home to victories in the North Dakota-bred Quarter Horse Derby and the Northern Plains Derby while taking third in AQHA Challenge Stakes in between.
Little Love Affair A big heart in a small package, 2-year-old filly Little Love Affair started running and never looked back in a undefeated season at the North Dakota Horse Park. The biggest money winner of the year for either breed at the Park, she won the North Dakota-bred and Northern Plains Futurities.
No Temper Here Undefeated at the North Dakota Horse Park, No Temper Here set a new track record in winning the AQHA Challenge Race over the boys and Shake Em Diva

CHLOES RARE NEWS QUALIFIES FOR ALEX PICOV MEMORIAL FUTURITY

 

Ajax Downs, Ontario, Canada, September 20, 2009 -- Chloes Rare News, by Rare News, tied with Andalay Okey to become the 10th fastest qualifier for the October 4 Alex Picov Memorial Futurity for Ontario bred or foaled Quarter Horses.

 

Chloes Rare News, out of Gettin Into Cash (by Roll The Cash) was bred by Michael and Teri Dinnell, in Montana, then her dam was sold. Chloes Rare News was foaled in Ontario. She is owned by Douglas Henry and trained by Barry Wood. Marty J Mercieca was in the irons as she finished 3rd in that 400-yard trial with a time of :20.81.

 

Tying for fastest qualifiers at :20.39 were Ms Mollie Malone, a filly by The Down Side owned by Belinda Taggart and Donald Ito, and Sum Fun to Watch, a gelding by Sum Fun to Bet owned by Full Circle Racing.

LITTLE LOVE AFFAIR WINS NORTHERN PLAINS FUTURITY BY ALMOST 2 LENGTHS!

 

North Dakota Horse Park, Fargo, ND, September 6, 2009 -- Running into an 18-mph head wind, Little Love Affair (by Rare News out of Sweet Sashay TB) easily won the $21,850 Northern Plains Futurity, in Fargo, today, and added a 2nd stakes win to her record.

 

Leon and Karen Glasser's homebred Little Love Affair, si 82, earned $11,264 for her win, bringing her lifetime earnings to $21,984. The pretty flaxen-maned and tailed sorrel filly has 5 wins from 6 starts as a 2-year-old.

 

Little Love Affair is trained by Jim Fleming. Zack Bacon rode her to victory in the 350-yard race.

COMES NATURALLY WINS FOURTH RACE

 

North Dakota Horse Park, Fargo, ND, August 21, 2009 -- Leon and Karen Glasser's Comes Naturally, si 92, easily won a 300-yard allowance race at North Dakota Horse Park, in Fargo, August 21. The 3-year-old daughter of Rare News out of Ponotoc County TB led wire to wire, under jockey Jim Beeson, and earned $1,500 for her efforts.

 

Comes Naturally is trained by Jim Fleming. From 12 starts, she is a stakes finalist and has 4 wins, 1 second-place finish, and earnings of $7,024.

 

 


 
 KOUKANEWSER BREAKS MAIDEN WITH WIN AT ONEIDA COUNTY FAIR

 

Oneida County Fair, Malad, Idaho, August 8, 2009 -- Koukanewser, a 2-year-old gelding by Rare News out of Private Kouk TB, owned by Brittney Anger and trained by Reggie Anger, won his first race, a 300-yard maiden, at Oneida County Fair, in Malad, Idaho. Paul Greene rode the big gelding to a close finish just ahead of Hi Pretty Corona (by Midnight Corona).

 

Koukanewser, bred by CMB Don Keys, is the 8th race winner for Rare News. He is offered for sale on this site.

 

 

 

RARE NEWS HAS HIS FIRST STAKES WINNER AS LITTLE LOVE AFFAIR WINS THE $20,000 NORTH DAKOTA-BRED FUTURITY IN A BIG WAY!

 

North Dakota Horse Park, Fargo, August 7, 2009 -- Coming from 7th place at the break, Little Love Affair, a two-year-old daughter of Rare News out of Sweet Sashay TB (by Prized), poured on the speed to win the $20,000 North Dakota-Bred Futurity by a length and a half, thus becoming her sire's first stakes winner!

 

Little Love Affair, si 82, now has a record of 4 wins from 5 starts and earnings of $10,720. She's bred and owned by Leon and Karen Glasser, of Mandan, ND, and is trained by Jim Fleming. Jim Beeson rode her to her stakes victory.

 

Finishing 2nd was Cannonballs Grizzly (by Donttouchthethrotle), and 3rd was Apollos First Down (by Apollo TB). The North Dakota-Bred Futurity purse was $20,405 (Little Love Affair's share was $8,570). (See StallionESearch for more about top three horses.)

SQUIRRELLY QUALIFIES FOR INTERMOUNTAIN STALLION FUTURITY

 

Sandy Downs, Idaho Falls, Idaho, July 31, 2009 -- Squirrelly, a 2-year-old filly by Rare News out of Proud Zip Zorro (by Proudest Effort) finished 3rd, in one of four 330-yard trials, with a time of :17.395, and qualified for the Intermountain Stallion Futurity, to be raced on August 22nd.

 

Squirrelly, si 86, bred and owned by Ray and Wendy Norgaard, of Montana, now has 2 seconds and 1 third from 4 starts. She is trained by Mike and Josh Taylor. Elliot Bachicha, Jr. rode her in the trial.

 

The Intermountain Stallion Futurity is limited to offspring of stallions that stand for $1,000 or less in Idaho or any state that borders Idaho. Squirrelly was the lone Rare News representative in the trials and will go on to represent him in the final race.

The fastest qualifier was Ill See You Later, a filly by Dashing Jess Perry out of a daughter of Easy Jet. owned by Benny Estrada and trained by Israel Alonso.

COMES NATURALLY QUALIFIES FOR NORTH DAKOTA-BRED DERBY

 

North Dakota Horse Park, Fargo, July 24, 2009 -- After a bad break and slow start to her trial for the North Dakota-Bred Derby, Comes Naturally, 3-year-old daughter of Rare News, fought to finish 2nd and qualify 5th fastest to the August 8th derby.

 

Comes Naturally, bred by Karen and Leon Glasser, of Mandan, North Dakota, is out of Ponotoc County, a Thoroughbred mare by Track Baron. She is owned and trained by Jim Fleming.

 

Jockeyed by Jim Beeson, she crossed the wire at 400 yards in :21.089, finishing 2nd behind Shake Em Diva, a Royal Shake Em mare out of Ms Devine Diva (by This Snow is Royal). Shake Em Diva is the fastest qualifier to the derby. See StallionESearch for the complete list of qualifiers.

NORTH DAKOTA-BRED FUTURITY

 

 

North Dakota Horse Park, Fargo, July 24, 2009 -- Winning her 3rd race from just 4 starts, 2-year-old Little Love Affair, by Rare News, became the fastest qualifier to the August 7th North Dakota-Bred Futurity.

 

Little Love Affair  ran the 350-yard trial in a time of :18.479. She won the last of three trials by 1/2 length over Apollos First Down to set the fastest qualifying time.

 

Little Love Affair is out of the Thoroughbred mare Sweet Sashy (by Prized). She was bred by Karen and Leon Glasser, of Mandan, ND, and is owned and trained by Jim Fleming. Jake Olesiak was in the irons.

 

This win brought her record to 3 wins from 4 starts. The sorrel filly has earned $2,150.

DA BLOOD SPEAKS WINS WIRE-TO-WIRE AT FAIR MEADOWS

 

Fair Meadows, Tulsa, Oklahoma. June 11, 2009 -- Three-year-old Da Blood Speaks, by Rare News out of Jetstir (by Wholelottastirrin), broke from the 1-hole and ran a 350-yard claiming race at Fair Meadows tonight, leading wire-to-wire, and finishing in :17.829, with a speed index of 89.

 

From just 5 starts to 3, Da Blood Speaks (bred and owned by Kendrick Wright, of South Carolina), has 2 wins, 1 second and 1 third. She's earned $9,046.

 

Da Blood Speaks was ridden to victory by Adalberto Candanosa. She is trained by Stacy Charette-Hill.

 

Finishing 2nd was Super Chopper Upper, and crossing the wire 3rd was Flight Comander.

COMES NATURALLY WINS ALLOWANCE RACE AT BROWN COUNTY FAIR

 

Brown County Fair, South Dakota, May 16, 2009 -- Comes Naturally, a 3-year-old filly by Rare News won a 350-yard allowance race today at Brown County Fair, in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

 

The big brown filly, owned and trained by Jim Fleming and ridden by Zack Bacon, won the race with a time of 18.084 and a speed index of 92. Comes Naturally earned $980 for the win, bringing her lifetime earnings to $3,724.

 

This was the 2nd win for Comes Naturally, bred by Leon and Karen Glasser, of North Dakota. She is out of the Thoroughbred mare Ponotoc County (by Track Barron).

 


 
TWO WINNERS IN ONE DAY FOR RARE NEWS

Fort Pierre, SD & Laurel Brown Racetrack, UT, April 25, 2009 -- It was a good day for sire Rare News today! At Fort Pierre, South Dakota, 2-year-old first time starter Little Love Affair, out of Sweet Sashay TB (by Prized TB), had a wire-to-wire win in a 250-yard maiden race (photo above). Little Love Affair is owned by Lloyd Counts and is trained by Jim Fleming. Zack Bacon was her jockey. Little Love Affair was bred by Leon and Karen Glasser. Her speed index was 74 for that first out. She paid $23.40 to win.

At Laurel Brown Race Track, in Salt Lake City, Utah, 4-year-old Flash Moment, out of the Dash Ta Fame mare Moment of Pursuit, broke his maiden, winning by 3-lengths on a muddy track He became Rare News's 7th winner (from 10 starters) in a 350-yard race. Flash Moment stumbled the second jump, then ran lights out to finish with a 96 speed index (see win strip below). Flash Moment is owned by Owen and Jason Udy. (More information later.)

JUST A RUMOR QUALIFIES FOR GEM COUNTY DERBY

 

Emmett, Idaho, April 19, 2009 -- Just A Rumor, a 3-year-old daughter of Rare News out of Charlys Ragtime Band narrowly missed winning her trial for the 2009 Gem County Derby, on April 19. She crossed the wire in 2nd place by just the nod of a head, finishing the 330 yard race in 17.256 and earning a 90 speed index. Her time qualified her to race in the Gem County Derby.

 

Just A Rumor, bred by Michael & Teri Dinnell and owned by MFWIC, Inc., was ridden by Aaron Shaw. She is trained by Brent Bowman.

 

Just A Rumor (shown on the inside, in red, in the photo at the left) had just 4 starts at 2. This trial was her first start for her 3-year-old year. Her record for 5 starts is now 1 win, two 2nds, and 1 3rd.

 

Circle D's In Mozambique ("Mozy") also ran in the trials. She had a difficult time in the gates and neither broke nor ran well, so failed to qualify.
