Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico, July 29, 2010 -- This News is Royal showed a lot of heart as he finished 2nd by a nose in a 350-yard, $7,500 claiming race at Ruidoso today.

 

Going into the race with 5 to 1 odds, This News is Royal, a 3-year-old gelding by Rare News out of This Babe is Royal (by This Snow is Royal), broke a little slow from the 10th gate. His jockey, Felipe Garcia-Luna, lost his whip, but without urging with a whip, This News is Royal showed heart and a competitive spirit by rapidly moving to third position, then 2nd, and ultimately finishing a nose behind the leader, Shazoom Sign, a gelded son of Shazoom.

 

This News is Royal, owned by Alejandro Arzabala, Jr. and trained by Martin Orona, Sr., crossed the wire in 0:17.759, with an 85 speed index. Finishing just behind him was the race favorite Jess My Way (ridden by Jacky Martin), a son of Mr Jess Perry.

Sandy Downs, Idaho Falls, Idaho, July 9, 2010 -- Two-year-old Rare Lane, a filly by Rare News out of Thumper Lane (by Lanes Leinster out of Infamous Bunny by Dash Ta Fame) qualified for the July 24th $15,000 Intermountain Stallion Futurity at Sandy Downs by running 330 yards, in her trial heat, in :17.394.

LITTLE LOVE AFFAIR 7 WINS IN 9 STARTS!

Chippewa Downs, North Dakota, June 27, 2010 -- She did it again. LITTLE LOVE AFFAIR (by Rare News) won another race. 7 wins in 9 starts for the pretty 3-year-old filly owned by Leon and Karen Glasser, of Mandan, North Dakota. Multiple stakes winner Little Love Affair has earned $26,810 on tough tracks in the North Dakota area. Her 7th win was the North Dakota Certified BetAmerica Derby at Chippewa Downs. She ran the 350 yards in 18.115 (for a 92 speed index), dueling all the way.

This hard-running filly is trained by Jim Fleming and was ridden by Clyde Smith. Equibase shows her highest speed index to be 119. AQHA records a 97 as her fastest, however.


 

LITTLE LOVE AFFAIR WINS 6TH RACE WITH A 119 SPEED INDEX!

 

 

Chippewa Downs, North Dakota, June 12, 2010 -- Little Love Affair won her 6th race from 8 lifetime starts with a speed index of 119 at Chippewa Downs, Saturday. The 3-year-old daughter of Rare News out of Sweet Sashay TB was taken out by a horse at the break, she recovered -- in 8th place -- and went on to win the 350 yard allowance race by 3/4 length! The Equibase report indicates no wind and a heavy track. The race was hand timed.

 

Little Love Affair, bred and owned by Karen and Leon Glasser, of Mandan, ND, one 2 stakes races as a 2-year-old. Her race record from 8 starts is 6 wins and 1 second. She's earned $24,084 the hard way on the small tracks of North and South Dakota. She is a small horse with a huge heart.

MARE SOLD BY CIRCLE D PRODUCES STAKES WINNER

 

Pocatello Downs, Pocatello, Idaho, May 30, 2010 -- Two-year-old filly Jo Dee Chic beat the odds and won the 330-yard Rocky Mountain Spring Classic Futurity on May 30th with a time of :16.992 and a speed index of 98. Jo Dee Chic, owned and bred by Dan Moon, is a daughter of Jody O Toole out of Chickadown Azure (by Easy First Down). She was trained by Bret Vickery and ridden by Paul Greene.

 

This nice stakes winner's dam is a daughter of Charlys Ragtime Band, a mare previously owned by Michael and Teri Dinnell of Circle D Horses. Dinnells purchased Charlys Ragtime Band and the filly at her side, Chickadown Azure, at an auction in 2002. Later Chickadown Azure, si 88, raced for Dinnells. After her racing career was cut short due to a chipped knee, "Chicka" was sold to the Moons.

LITTLE LOVE AFFAIR 2ND IN FORT PIERRE DERBY

 

Fort Pierre, South Dakota, May 8, 2010 -- Little Love Affair finished 2nd with a 97 speed index in the first race of her 3-year-old year, the Fort Pierre Derby, in Fort Pierre, South Dakota. She stumbled a bit at the break, but recovered enough to finish 2nd to Cedar Creek, a daughter of Champion Oak Tree Special and last year's SDQHRA Champion Two-Year-Old (she earned over $42,000 in 2009).

JUST A RUMOR QUALIFIES FOR AQHA MERIAL DISTAFF SUN DOWNS CHALLENGE

 

Sun Downs, Washington, April 18, 2010 -- Just A Rumor, a 4-year-old mare by Rare News, finished third in a 400-yard trial, in a time of :19.82, with a speed index of 105, and qualified 5th fastest for the May 2nd AQHA Merial Distaff Sun Downs Challenge.

 

Just A Rumor, si 105, out of Charlys Ragtime Band, an unraced daughter of Band of Azure, was bred by Michael and Teri Dinnell, Dinnell Circle D Horses. She is owned by Pablo Madrigal and is trained by Hector Magallanes. Luis A. Torres was her jockey in the Distaff Challenge trial today.

 

Just A Rumor competed with some strong mares with outstanding records to qualify for the May 2nd AQHA Challenge race, at Sun Downs. Fastest qualifier is Daddies Little Girl, si 117 (by Chickie Cherry Cola), owned by Stacy Vickery and trained by Bret Vickery. Bret Vickery trains 5 of the 10 qualifiers. All the qualifiers ran speed indexes over 100 with no recorded wind at Sun Downs. The ten fast qualifiers will compete again on May 2nd. The winner will receive an invite to the $125,000 Guaranteed Merial Distaff Challenge Championship to be run on November 20th in New Orleans.

Sunland Park, New Mexico, April 10, 2010 -- This News is Royal, a 3 year-old gelding by Rare News out of This Babe is Royal (by This Snow is Royal) broke his maiden running his third lifetime race -- and his first ever at the distance of 440-yards -- at Sunland Park today.

 

This News is Royal, owned by Alejandro Arzabala, Jr., broke to the outside coming out the 6-hole, but straightened himself out and came from behind to win (by a nostril) the 440-yard maiden claiming race in a time of :21.473 (and a speed index of 91). Closing rapidly right behind him to finish 2nd was Famous Episode, a 4-year old gelding by First Down Episode out of Famous Shake (by Dash Ta Fame). This News is Royal earned $5,700 for today's win.

 

This News is Royal is trained by Martin Orona, Sr. Jockey Jimmy Coates was in the irons for the horse's first win. He was bred in Montana by Michael  and Teri Dinnell, and is the first foal out of race winner This Babe is Royal, si 93, one of Dinnells' broodmares.

North Dakota Quarter Horse Racing Association, Bismarck, ND, February 11, 2010 -- Two-time stakes winner LITTLE LOVE AFFAIR, by Rare News, will be named 2009 North Dakota 2-Year-Old Racing Champion, at the annual awards banquet, in Bismarck this weekend.

 

Little Love Affair, bred and owned by Leon and Karen Glasser, of Mandan, ND, won both the North Dakota-bred and Northern Plains Futurities, in 2009. Trained by Jim Fleming, Little Love Affair won five wins from 6 starts as a 2-year-old. The pretty sorrel filly with flaxen mane and tail is out of Sweet Sashay, a Thoroughbred mare by Prized. She's a small filly with a big heart.

 

Little Love Affair is the first stakes winner and racing champion sired by Rare News (owned by Michael and Teri Dinnell, of Montana). The $8,000 claimer at Sunland Park was just the second lifetime start for the sorrel gelding.

 

This News is Royal, owned by Alejandro Arzabala and trained by Martin Orona, Sr., broke nicely from the 7-hole and ran hard, vying for the lead with Famous Jim, a gelding by Golden Ransom TB out of a daughter of Dash Ta Fame. By the bob of his nose, Famous Jim crossed the wire first, with This News is Royal, ridden by Jimmy Coates, a thousandth of a second behind him. Heza Bold Merlot (by Heza Bold Man) finished 3rd. Also running were Runaway Banks (by Robin Banks), Dropdedgorjus (by Teller Cartel), Six Debits (by Sixes Royal), Lady Lion (by Metallic Lion), Snus Queen (by Spit Curl Jess), Captain Scorpion (by Captain Perry), and Cartel of Gleneagles (by Corona Cartel).

 

This News is Royal, bred in Montana by Michael and Teri W. Dinnell, earned $1,785 for for the race.

JUST A RUMOR WINS BY 1-1/2 LENGTHS AT PORTLAND MEADOWS

 

Portland Meadows, Portland, OR, January 25, 2010 -- Just A Rumor, a 4-year-old mare by Rare News, ran a second race at Portland Meadows since coming back to the track after having been off since April 2009, and won the 350-yard claimer easily by a length and a half on a wet track.

 

Just A Rumor, owned by Pablo Madrigal, and trained by Hector Magallanes, broke sharply from the 6-hole and led all the way, increasing her winning margin with each powerful stride. She finished with a time of :18.13 and a speed index of 92. Ruben Camacho rode her to victory. Mid Knight Crooz finished 2nd with a time of :18.36, and Fast N Fabulous came in 3rd.

 

Just A Rumor, a stakes finalist in Idaho at 2 and 3, is out of Charlys Ragtime Band, an unraced daughter of Band of Azure. She was bred by Michael and Teri Dinnell.

 

Since coming back to the track after her layoff, this beautiful, big mare has had one 2nd (in an allowance race January 18th) and now this win. From 8 lifetime starts, Just A Rumor, si 92, has 2 wins, 3 seconds, and 1 third. She has earned $5,669.

North Dakota Horse Park, Fargo, ND, October 5, 2009 -- The three finalists for Quarter Horse of the Year were:
Shake Em Diva The “lady in white”, this 3-year-old grey filly flew home to victories in the North Dakota-bred Quarter Horse Derby and the Northern Plains Derby while taking third in AQHA Challenge Stakes in between.
Little Love Affair A big heart in a small package, 2-year-old filly Little Love Affair started running and never looked back in a undefeated season at the North Dakota Horse Park. The biggest money winner of the year for either breed at the Park, she won the North Dakota-bred and Northern Plains Futurities.
No Temper Here Undefeated at the North Dakota Horse Park, No Temper Here set a new track record in winning the AQHA Challenge Race over the boys and Shake Em Diva

Ajax Downs, Ontario, Canada, September 20, 2009 -- Chloes Rare News, by Rare News, tied with Andalay Okey to become the 10th fastest qualifier for the October 4 Alex Picov Memorial Futurity for Ontario bred or foaled Quarter Horses.

 

Chloes Rare News, out of Gettin Into Cash (by Roll The Cash) was bred by Michael and Teri Dinnell, in Montana, then her dam was sold. Chloes Rare News was foaled in Ontario. She is owned by Douglas Henry and trained by Barry Wood. Marty J Mercieca was in the irons as she finished 3rd in that 400-yard trial with a time of :20.81.

 

Tying for fastest qualifiers at :20.39 were Ms Mollie Malone, a filly by The Down Side owned by Belinda Taggart and Donald Ito, and Sum Fun to Watch, a gelding by Sum Fun to Bet owned by Full Circle Racing.

Sandy Downs, Idaho Falls, Idaho, July 31, 2009 -- Squirrelly, a 2-year-old filly by Rare News out of Proud Zip Zorro (by Proudest Effort) finished 3rd, in one of four 330-yard trials, with a time of :17.395, and qualified for the Intermountain Stallion Futurity, to be raced on August 22nd.

 

Squirrelly, si 86, bred and owned by Ray and Wendy Norgaard, of Montana, now has 2 seconds and 1 third from 4 starts. She is trained by Mike and Josh Taylor. Elliot Bachicha, Jr. rode her in the trial.

 

The Intermountain Stallion Futurity is limited to offspring of stallions that stand for $1,000 or less in Idaho or any state that borders Idaho. Squirrelly was the lone Rare News representative in the trials and will go on to represent him in the final race.

The fastest qualifier was Ill See You Later, a filly by Dashing Jess Perry out of a daughter of Easy Jet. owned by Benny Estrada and trained by Israel Alonso.

COMES NATURALLY QUALIFIES FOR NORTH DAKOTA-BRED DERBY

 

North Dakota Horse Park, Fargo, July 24, 2009 -- After a bad break and slow start to her trial for the North Dakota-Bred Derby, Comes Naturally, 3-year-old daughter of Rare News, fought to finish 2nd and qualify 5th fastest to the August 8th derby.

 

Comes Naturally, bred by Karen and Leon Glasser, of Mandan, North Dakota, is out of Ponotoc County, a Thoroughbred mare by Track Baron. She is owned and trained by Jim Fleming.

LITTLE LOVE AFFAIR WINS TRIAL & BECOMES FASTEST QUALIFIER FOR

NORTH DAKOTA-BRED FUTURITY

 

 

North Dakota Horse Park, Fargo, July 24, 2009 -- Winning her 3rd race from just 4 starts, 2-year-old Little Love Affair, by Rare News, became the fastest qualifier to the August 7th North Dakota-Bred Futurity.

 

Little Love Affair  ran the 350-yard trial in a time of :18.479. She won the last of three trials by 1/2 length over Apollos First Down to set the fastest qualifying time.

 

Little Love Affair is out of the Thoroughbred mare Sweet Sashy (by Prized). She was bred by Karen and Leon Glasser, of Mandan, ND, and is owned and trained by Jim Fleming. Jake Olesiak was in the irons.

 

This win brought her record to 3 wins from 4 starts. The sorrel filly has earned $2,150.

DA BLOOD SPEAKS WINS WIRE-TO-WIRE AT FAIR MEADOWS

 

Fair Meadows, Tulsa, Oklahoma. June 11, 2009 -- Three-year-old Da Blood Speaks, by Rare News out of Jetstir (by Wholelottastirrin), broke from the 1-hole and ran a 350-yard claiming race at Fair Meadows tonight, leading wire-to-wire, and finishing in :17.829, with a speed index of 89.

 

From just 5 starts to 3, Da Blood Speaks (bred and owned by Kendrick Wright, of South Carolina), has 2 wins, 1 second and 1 third. She's earned $9,046.

 

Da Blood Speaks was ridden to victory by Adalberto Candanosa. She is trained by Stacy Charette-Hill.

 

Finishing 2nd was Super Chopper Upper, and crossing the wire 3rd was Flight Comander.

COMES NATURALLY WINS ALLOWANCE RACE AT BROWN COUNTY FAIR

 

Brown County Fair, South Dakota, May 16, 2009 -- Comes Naturally, a 3-year-old filly by Rare News won a 350-yard allowance race today at Brown County Fair, in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

 

The big brown filly, owned and trained by Jim Fleming and ridden by Zack Bacon, won the race with a time of 18.084 and a speed index of 92. Comes Naturally earned $980 for the win, bringing her lifetime earnings to $3,724.

 

This was the 2nd win for Comes Naturally, bred by Leon and Karen Glasser, of North Dakota. She is out of the Thoroughbred mare Ponotoc County (by Track Barron).

 


 
TWO WINNERS IN ONE DAY FOR RARE NEWS

Fort Pierre, SD & Laurel Brown Racetrack, UT, April 25, 2009 -- It was a good day for sire Rare News today! At Fort Pierre, South Dakota, 2-year-old first time starter Little Love Affair, out of Sweet Sashay TB (by Prized TB), had a wire-to-wire win in a 250-yard maiden race (photo above). Little Love Affair is owned by Lloyd Counts and is trained by Jim Fleming. Zack Bacon was her jockey. Little Love Affair was bred by Leon and Karen Glasser. Her speed index was 74 for that first out. She paid $23.40 to win.

At Laurel Brown Race Track, in Salt Lake City, Utah, 4-year-old Flash Moment, out of the Dash Ta Fame mare Moment of Pursuit, broke his maiden, winning by 3-lengths on a muddy track He became Rare News's 7th winner (from 10 starters) in a 350-yard race. Flash Moment stumbled the second jump, then ran lights out to finish with a 96 speed index (see win strip below). Flash Moment is owned by Owen and Jason Udy. (More information later.)

JUST A RUMOR QUALIFIES FOR GEM COUNTY DERBY

 

Emmett, Idaho, April 19, 2009 -- Just A Rumor, a 3-year-old daughter of Rare News out of Charlys Ragtime Band narrowly missed winning her trial for the 2009 Gem County Derby, on April 19. She crossed the wire in 2nd place by just the nod of a head, finishing the 330 yard race in 17.256 and earning a 90 speed index. Her time qualified her to race in the Gem County Derby.

 

Just A Rumor, bred by Michael & Teri Dinnell and owned by MFWIC, Inc., was ridden by Aaron Shaw. She is trained by Brent Bowman.

 

Just A Rumor (shown on the inside, in red, in the photo at the left) had just 4 starts at 2. This trial was her first start for her 3-year-old year. Her record for 5 starts is now 1 win, two 2nds, and 1 3rd.

 

Circle D's In Mozambique ("Mozy") also ran in the trials. She had a difficult time in the gates and neither broke nor ran well, so failed to qualify.

Blue Ribbon Downs, Oklahoma, October 24, 2008—Kendrick Wright's 2-year-old filly Da Blood Speaks (by Rare News) placed 2nd to a more experienced horse in her first out in a 300-yard maiden race at Blue Ribbon Downs on October 24.

Breaking 2nd from the 8th hole, Da Blood Speaks, with Bryan Ernst in the irons, stayed ahead of 7 other 2-year-olds and crossed the wire behind RJ Streakin Chico (Dashin Chico - for Kicks Lady), an Oklahoma-bred gelding with 5 starts already under his belt. Da Blood Speaks finished in a time of :15.966 and earned an 81 speed index.

Da Blood Speaks, bred and owned by Kendrick Wright, is trained by Stacy Charette-Hill. She is out of Jetstir, an unraced mare by Wholelotta Stirrin. Da Blood Speaks earned $1,252 and became the 8th starter and 8th money earner sired by Rare News.


 
"MOZY" NAMED RECIPIENT OF DUTCH MASTERS III HIGH-POINT BONUS

 

Jerome, ID, October 2, 2008—In Mozambique ("Mozy"), a 2-year-old filly by Rare News out of Gotatickettowin (by Chicks Beduino), is the recipient of the Dutch Masters III high-point bonus award for points achieved in qualifying for and placing in both the Emmett and Idaho Falls Futurities, in Idaho, in 2008.

 

Dutch Masters III sponsor a $25,000 Triple Crown Bonus for the owner of any horse that is eligible and wins the Emmett, Jerome and Idaho Falls Futurities. If there is no "triple crown" winner, points are awarded to horses who run in the trials and compete in those races.

 

Michael and Teri W. Dinnell's filly, In Mozambique, si 102, placed 2nd in the trials for both the Emmett and Idaho Falls futurities. She finished 3rd in the Emmett Futurity and 3rd in the Idaho Falls Futurity, making her the high point horse for 2008. Dinnells, of St. Ignatius, Montana, will receive $4,000 for Mozy's accomplishments.

 

Denny and Sandy Weigt, of Jerome, Idaho, are the recipients of the 2nd place award of $1,000. Their Special leader filly Sum Special Hum was the fastest qualifier for and the winner of this year's Emmett Futurity.

 

Michael and Teri Dinnell feel honored to receive this award from Dutch Masters III. They think very highly of Denny Boer and his fiancée Lisa Anderson and feel privileged to receive an award established by them for horses racing in Idaho.

IN MOZAMBIQUE ("MOZY") FINISHES 3RD IN IDAHO FALLS FUTURITY WITH A 102 SPEED INDEX

 

Sandy Downs, Idaho Falls, ID, September 28, 2008—In Mozambique, 2-year-old filly by Rare News out of Gotatickettowin (by Chicks Beduino), broke hard from the 5th hole (same position as in the trials) and ran relentlessly to finish a solid 3rd in the Idaho Falls Futurity. She finished with a time of 17.786, which earned her a 102 speed index, in the fastest race of her career.

 

Winning the $27,550 futurity was the favorite Streakin Cherry Cola, a very nice Chickie Cherry Cola gelding (out of Streakin Dot Dash by Streakin Dash). Streakin Cherry Cola, trained by Jay Pitcher and owned by Kapp Investments and Kirk Woolf, ran the 350-yards in 17.635 (106 speed index). Finishing 2nd was Heza Hot Habit, a Red Hot Rhythm gelding trained by Jay Pitcher and owned by Leslie Braker. His time was 17.646 (105 speed index). (See stallionesearch results.)

 

The other horses finishing the non-graded futurity were: 4th Dash In Traffic, 5th First Classy Rhythm, 6th Maxamillionthree, 7th Stormin Leader, 8th Easy Evening Snow, 9th WNV Virus Detected, and 10th CH Bishops Choice.

 

Mozy, owned and bred by Michael & Teri Dinnell of Circle D Horses, is trained by Brent Bowman. Mark Boag rode Mozy across the wire. She earned $2,755 for her efforts, bringing her race earnings total to $5,186. She ended her 2-year-old race season with a record of 2 seconds and 2 thirds from 7 starts.

 

In Mozambique is now back home in Montana enjoying a big pasture and familiar faces. She will rest up before returning to the track next spring.
