AQHA Release—In 2007, the American
Quarter Horse Association will begin recognizing outstanding
American Quarter Horse dams and their contributions to the racing
industry throughout their lifetime. Through 2006, 38 mares have met
at least one of the following criteria and will be acknowledged as a
Dam of Distinction on her official AQHA record of achievement:
1. Produced two or more
individual AQHA Racing Champions.
2. Produced at least three
individual American Quarter Horse Grade 1 stakes winners.
3. Produced at least two
American Quarter Horse foals ranked in the top 10 money earners of
any particular year (as of December 31 of that year) and two Grade 1
stakes winners.
4. Produced at least three
American Quarter Horse Foals who were in the top 10 money earners of
any particular year (as of December 31 of that year).
5. Produced at least three
individual American Quarter Horse stakes winners prior to 1983 and
those wins were equivalent of a Grade 1 quality race.
