Yesterday, while the mares and foals were out of their stalls getting a little exercise and fresh air before the next storm moved in, we cleaned the stalls (well, Michael cleaned stalls and I took photos of babies). I was sitting in a stall messing with "Spanky" (the 4-day-old Rare News colt out of Hot Summer Mountain by Panther Mountain) and made Michael quit working to come sit by me. He sat down and Spanky came right over and just dropped on Michael's lap for his nap! It was hilarious  -- and unbelievable!

That little 4-day-old colt lay across Michael's lap while Michael stroked him and talked to him until he went to sleep. Spanky made no effort to get up or move. He wasn't worried about anything. He was comfortable and cozy with his new best friend.

Glad I had the camera! "Kitty" (Spanky's mother) didn't mind at all. She sniffed them both a couple times, but just went back to her hay while that brown colt got cuddled to sleep!

We'll never be able to live with Spanky now. He will probably expect a lullaby and a bedtime story like this when he's 16 hands! (March 9, 2009)

Photos just above taken within 3 hours of his birth.
